Ritz Paris

No list of Parisian hotels would feel complete without the legendary Ritz Paris. In fact, we’ve previously dedicated a whole post on how to get the look of this legendary hotel –> Get the Look: Ritz Paris.

The Ritz was founded in 1898 and quickly became known for its luxury – so luxurious that it inspired the term “ritzy”.

Today it’s still a favorite for many celebrities and those in the fortunate positions of being able to stay there. No Paris Fashion Week would be complete without paparazzi photos of a celebrity walking into the Ritz.

Design Lesson: Warm Neutrals Never Feel Cold When Layered Correctly

This guest room is a great example of a mostly neutral room that doesn’t feel cold, but instead, rich and inviting. A bedroom is often a good place to stay a bit neutral in colors for the ultimate calming experience.

The walls are neutral but in a warm tone and have dimension from the picture frame moulding and multi colored elements for dimension. The upholstered headboard pairs comfort with elegance with its curved back and end posts while layered blues, in different fabrics and patterns introduce depth. Gold accents and crystal details quietly elevate the entire space.

Design Lesson: Intentional Placement Makes Pattern Feel Timeless

The Windsor Suite is a masterclass in how to use pattern without it feeling overwhelming. This is achieved by repeating the same fabric on the curtains and bedframe, along with featuring it in just one box above the bed, framed by picture frame moulding painted the same color as the walls.

The space above the bed can be challenging to decorate well to make a statement and separate it from the rest of the room. This method of the wall covering is an alternative to the bed canopy that Ritz Paris often uses at the head of the bed.

To cap it off, crisp white bedding keeps the look fresh and modern.

Grands Boulevards

If the Ritz represents classic Parisian tradition, Hôtel des Grands Boulevards offers a modern interpretation of French design.

Design Lesson: A Few Bold Elements Can Carry an Entire Room

This bedroom balances drama and calm beautifully, proving that a few dramatic details can carry a room and balance simpler surroundings.

A sculptural bed canopy in layered blue tones pairs unexpectedly with a rust-colored velvet headboard. The rest of the room stays quiet, proving that you don’t need excess to make a statement.

Le Meurice

Opened in 1835 and located directly across from the Tuileries Garden, Le Meurice is one of Paris’s most iconic luxury hotels.

Design Lesson: Let Architecture Do the Work

This room is a reminder that sometimes less truly is more. A restrained neutral palette allows the architectural details, crown moulding, picture-frame trim, and a crystal chandelier, to shine. The result is calming, elegant, and undeniably Parisian.

Le Grand Mazarin

And now we move into the complete opposite direction with Le Grand Mazarin, a bohemian wonderland located in the Marais, a stylish, quainter part of town known for its boutiques and restaurants.

Le Grand Mazarin is the hotel for artsy maximalists who want a 5-star experience. You can’t experience this hotel and not feel like you’re part of something special. Throughout the entirety of the space there’s whimsy, color, and unexpected elements around every corner.

Design Lesson: Don’t Be Afraid to Mix Patterns

The restaurant, Boubalé, is a feast for both the stomach and the eyes! Many would think to let the wallpaper shine by remaining simple in the other elements. And we’re so thankful they didn’t do that.

Combining the multi-color chevron fabric in similar, but more muted tones than the wallpaper adds an unexpected element that keeps things exciting. The colors of the chairs and drinking glasses bring a cohesive element to unite the two patterns.

Design Lesson: Unexpected Color Combinations Create Magic

Red, mustard, and sage green combined in one space may sound intimidating and even heartburn-inducing, but here, they sing.

This is all brought together by the beautiful tapestry that serves as a bed canopy to envelop the bed space and create a sense of coziness.

Hotel Particulier

Set on a quiet hill in Montmartre, Hôtel Particulier feels worlds away from central Paris. This former private mansion turned boutique hotel has just five uniquely designed rooms.

Design Lesson: Bring the Outdoors In

Hotel Particulier has a beautiful green canopy surrounding it, adding to its calming atmosphere. The Jardin sur le Nil Suite doubles down on greenery with a mural-style palm wallpaper paired with real latticework. The result is calming, immersive, and incredibly transportive.

Design Lesson: Think About Sightlines

While the bedroom is layered and detailed, the visible bathroom remains neutral and restrained, giving the eye a place to rest and balancing the overall experience.

La Fantasie

The name of this hotel isn’t hiding anything – La Fantasie really is a fantasy land. And if you take a look at the hotel, you won’t be shocked to find out that the hotel was designed by the same team behind Le Grand Mazarin: Swedish designer Martin Brudnizki. Brudnizki is behind some of the most iconic spaces in the world right now: Hotel Barriere Fouquet’s in NYC, Vesper Bar at The Dorchester in London, and Annabel’s private members’ club in London.

This boutique hotel opened in 2023 in the 9th arrondissement of Paris. It has wellness and relaxation as key aspects of the experience which come through in design details throughout.

Design Lesson: Hallways Deserve Attention

Our first lesson from La Fantasie? Don’t overlook a hallway. Sometimes we keep hallways simple and don’t put much thought into how to make them an experience on their own rather than just a transition space to go to other, more appreciated spaces.

Crafting a hallway with wow-factor can really add to the journey of moving through your home.

Design Lesson: Get Resourceful in Small Spaces

Parisian spaces typically aren’t overflowing with extra room, so even nice hotels have to think through these aspects when designing a space.

Exhibit A: This relatively small bathroom has led to limited vanity space. They countered this by adding a floating shelf between the sink and the mirror which nearly doubles the space available to set your necessities. Hack #2 from La Fantasie was to mount a makeup mirror off to the side of the main vanity mirror. Practical and beautiful to use in our own spaces.

Design Lesson: When Intimidated by Mixing Patterns, Match the Color

If pattern mixing feels intimidating, this is the easiest rule to follow. Different patterns in the same color create visual interest without chaos, and always look chic.

The general aesthetic running throughout the hotel is relaxed, understated elegance, filled with neutrals that feel warm and inviting.

Design Lesson: Classics Are Timeless for a Reason

Hotel Rochechouart

One of the most stylish yet affordable Paris hotels, Hôtel Rochechouart sits at the foot of Montmartre and leans fully into Art Deco charm.

Design Lesson: Keep Lighting Low for Mood

For spaces without the need for true functional task lighting like a kitchen or entryway, it’s important to know how to create the right lighting. For the ultimate relaxing, vibey space, keeping lights below eye level is the perfect way to create a mood. Table lamps, sconces, and low pendants do the heavy lifting here.

Design Lesson: The Smallest Details Matter

Subtle satin stripes in bedding, delicate beaded cabinetry trim, and a softly curved headboard are what elevate this otherwise simple room into something special.
